You are absolutely right in the fact that they are breaking down the fundamental things that make Merlin who he is. Also, there is no logic in telling Arthur there can be no magic in Camelot. Sure, it possibly allows Mordred to die, but if your choices are "Kill Mordred in this one out of possibly thousands of chances" or "Persuade Arthur to allow magic in this one out of possibly never again chances" how does that make any sense? The writers have become very frustrating with their progression of the plot this season, as nothing has really happened after 5 episodes, and I still don't understand if there is an overarching plot for this season. This episode had so much promise but ultimately fell very flat.Russell Ingramhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08334057010964024989noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1670821364008433678.post-38931396945986611692012-11-04T21:12:23.429+00:002012-11-04T21:12:23.429+00:00But if Arthur chose to embrace the old religion Mo...But if Arthur chose to embrace the old religion Mordred would have died, not lived. Merlin wrongly assumed that what the Disir offered was to save Mordred, but what they were actually offering when they said they could save Camelot and Arthur years of pain and ruin was Mordred's death as Merlin realized at the end (of course, if only a god can change Arthur's fate maybe Merlin's attempt to interfere was inevitably doomed). The dragon's advice about killing Mordred if the chance comes along appears to be solid, but Merlin made a mistake in the way he tried to carry it out which achieved Mordred's continued life instead of his death. And Merlin knows the dragon was right about Morgana so he would not want to turn a deaf ear on this kind of thing again.

Gwen knows magic mainly as something evil enemies use and something that Morgana went evil after she embraced it. The good magicians she knows are in the closet, and most of them don't follow the old religion anyway. We don't know where Mordred is regarding his faith, if he abandoned it when he went into the closet or what.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
