It's no secret that summer is my favourite season and some of my favourite songs are those that reminds me of summers past. Read on for a mixtape of songs to give you that perfect summer vibe. My favourite is number 7!

These top ten songs range from the 1960s to now and are guaranteed to put you in the mood for summer:

1. The first choice is "Summer in the City" by The Lovin’ Spoonful. It cleverly uses horns to give the listener the feel of actual summer sounds in the city and is musically brilliant!

2. The next choice has to be The Kinks "Sunny Afternoon" with its tongue-in-cheek, slightly amusing lyrics; it is perfect to chill out to.

3. Moving on to the 1970s and no summer music list could be compiled without the addition of "Summer Nights" by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. Who can forget Travolta’s excruciatingly ending last high note? In the UK, this song from the film Grease topped the chart for seven weeks!

4. The 80s possibly gives you the best choice of summer songs, but one recommendation has to be Wham’s "Club Tropicana" which definitely both lyrically and musically gives you the holiday vibe.

5. For a slightly less cheesy summer song, Bananarama’s "Cruel Summer" is recommended. It is rather poignant and looks at being left alone in the summer. It became popular after being included in the iconic original Karate Kid film.

6. Moving on to the 90s and "Smooth" by Santana, featuring Rob Thomas is highly recommended. The song combines rock with a dramatic, summery Latino melody and is completely unique.

7. A slightly more obscure recommendation is Ash’s "Oh Yeah" which tells the story of a romance which occurred during the summer season.

8. Another Indie band who produced a great summery track in the 90s is Ocean Colour Scene with their classic hit "The Day We Caught The Train". The song is slightly reminiscent in style to The Beatles “I am the Walrus”.

9. Bringing us more up-to-date and who can forget the video and song "Whenever, Wherever" by Shakira. This awesome fusion of world-beat and Latin pop has a great summer vibe.

10. In 2013, Daft Punk is a great contender for Summer Anthem of the Year with their "Get Lucky". They are currently enjoying mass airplay and success on YouTube and in the charts.

Get adding these songs to your playlist today, whether you are a teenager or of a certain mature age, there is something here for you!
