Week in Music: Vocal

It's hard to put into words how beautiful London is in summer.  It's as if the whole world comes alive and everything is so bright.  In celebration of my good cheer this week, I thought that the best music to accompany my mood would be vocal masters such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Michael Bublé, Josh Groban, Katie Melua, Norah Jones, Bryan Ferry and Patrizio Buanne. Hopefully my choices this week can portray some of the wonder of Summer in London Town.

  1. Fever - Michael Bublé - I liked Michael Bublé from the minute my ears first heard him in a television advertisement. He is absolutely brilliant and occupies a place in the top 5 concerts I have ever seen (I have seen over 100 bands in concert).
  2. Jeepers Creepers - Tony Bennett - I still find it extremely amusing that the lyrics for Siouxsie and the Banshees song Peek-A-Boo comes from this song.   Tony Bennett is one of the Kings of the Crooners and I really love his voice.  This is my favourite song by him.
  3. As Time Goes By - Bryan Ferry - Bryan Ferry's rendition of As Time Goes By is on a really stunning collection of covers of primarily 1930's tracks.  This is a beautiful album and Ferry does not disappoint.
  4. Moondance - Michael Bublé - I couldn't resist sneaking another Michael Bublé song in here. This is my favourite Bublé song and I do love to sing along at the top of my voice!
  5. The Closest Thing To Crazy - Katie Melua - Katie Melua is absolutely amazing (in my not so humble opinion) and I am really impressed by her debut album. This is my favourite song.
  6. New York, New York - Frank Sinatra - How do I love this song (and Frank Sinatra)? Let me count the ways... Let's just say that Frank Sinatra is responsible for my love of music in this entire genre and New York has always been a passion of mine. But the biggest sign of my love was at my wedding - this is the song we chose to play as we walked into our reception. We felt on top of the world.
  7. L'Italiano - Patrizio Buanne - Given my love for Michael Bublé and Old Blue Eyes, it seems pretty obvious that I would be taken by Patrizio "Sex On Legs" Buanne. I saw this guy in concert - twice - boy can he sing and he is a brilliant performer!
  8. Vincent (Starry, Starry Night) - Josh Groban - Vincent has been a favourite song of mine for over 30 years. I can remember endlessly nagging my Mum and asking her to play it over and over again. Josh Groban's rendition does not disappoint.
  9. I've Got To See You Again - Norah Jones - I've got a small selection of songs that I have labelled Songs To Play Over and Over Again On Repeat. This song is on that list and in the past, I have literally played it for days on end. Norah Jones is good but this song is a masterpiece.
  10. You Raise Me Up - Josh Groban - This song is just beautiful and a perfect end to the playlist this week. I remember hearing him play this osng in concert - it brough tears to my eyes, it is just so lovely.
